The best engines of 2018


This year marks the 20th anniversary of the International Engine of the Year award that chooses the best engines in the market. In order to participate, the engines must conform to one of the categories created by the organization and be for sale in more than one country in June 2018. In each of the twelve categories (plus the engine of the year, the most desired prize ), experts judge each mechanic using their subjective driving impressions and technical knowledge, taking into account fuel savings, smoothness, performance, noise and ease of driving. Each juror (these 68 journalists) have 25 points to reward their five favorite engines in each category. The maximum points that an engine could take is 15 points, with a minimum of 1 point.
